As an important part of the textile industry chain, the printing and dyeing industry is a key link that drives the spinning and weaving, improves the grade and added value of garments and home textiles, and is also a key industry to ensure the competitiveness of textile products.

Digital printing, as a new printing method, fits the current trend of personalization, fashion, and fast-changing consumption, and adapts to the change from the traditional business model to the new business model of "small-batch, personalization and fast response", which is an important embodiment of the technology, fashion, and green in the printing and dyeing industry, and has become one of the fastest-growing fields in the printing and dyeing industry in recent years. COVID-19 in 2020 has stimulated a new round of digital change in the industry, in which the automation and intelligent development process of the printing and dyeing industry are further accelerated, and digital printing technology is facing new development opportunities.

Part 1 Printed Fabrics Market Overview

The global printed fabric market is mainly distributed in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America, with market size of about 55 billion m. From 2014 to 2018, the global printed fabric production is increasing year by year, with a slight decrease in 2019. 2020 is affected by the COVID-19, the production is expected to decline to about 46 billion m, down nearly 20% year on year. As shown in Table 1.

Part 2 Textile Digital Printing Market and Development

1、The basic situation of the global textile digital inkjet printing market

Digital printing has gone through the development process from "pure proofing" to "mass production". In recent years, with the rapid decline in the cost of digital printing equipment, ink, printing accuracy and speed of a significant increase, as well as digital printing technology with its no plate making, flower back to long, small print batch, green and other characteristics to adapt to the current textile market "personalized, fast response" development needs. The application of digital inkjet printing technology in the printing and dyeing industry has been increasing, and the market share has been expanding, see Table 2.

Digital printing with its flexible start-up and low labor characteristics to adapt to the epidemic under the "small-batch, reduce inventory" of the downstream demand. The impact of the COVID-19 on the digital printing industry is not outstanding, and the global digital printing production in 2020 is expected to be basically the same as in 2019.

Digital printing in Europe has always been at the forefront of the global digital printing industry and is the largest demand and production site for digital printing products, which has shifted from the past model based on design proofing to a small batch production model and gradually developed towards mass production. At present, the European printing industry has more than 90% of enterprises using digital printing proofs, digital printing product output has accounted for more than 25% of its overall printing product output.

In East Asia, represented by China, Korea, and Japan, digital printing production accounts for about 8-10%.

Digital printing in Southeast Asia accounts for about 3%-4%, and digital printing in South Asia accounts for about 3%-4%, of which Pakistan is outstanding, with digital printing accounting for 10%-12%.

2, China's textile digital inkjet printing basic situation

In recent years, digital inkjet printing technology has received wide attention and rapid development in China's printing and dyeing industry. 2014-2019, the proportion of digital inkjet printing increased from 1.8% to 11.2%, of which the proportion of digital direct-jet products in the total printing increased from 0.5% to 2.1%; the proportion of digital transfer products in the total printing increased from 1.3% to 9.1%. 2020 under the influence of the epidemic and the pull of the market, digital printing faster to adapt to market changes, to meet new consumer demand, and further expand the market application.

Digital transfer printing equipment is simple, a small investment can comply with the current market shift fast, small-batch, short cycle development trend, become a rapid development in recent years, the promotion of the application of expanding production and processing methods. As of 2019, digital transfer printing in digital inkjet printing has accounted for more than 80% of the proportion of digital direct-jet printing accounted for less than 20% of digital printing products.

It is expected that by 2025, the output of digital transfer printing will reach 2.7 billion meters, with an average annual growth rate of about 10%; the output of digital direct-jet printing will reach about 2 billion meters, with an average annual growth rate of about 33%.

The next article will talk about the digital printing equipment situation and global digital printing ink consumption.
